Abstract

A new species from Patagonia, Trichopetalum chosmalensis, is described and illustrated.
The genus is included in Laxmanniaceae and represents a new record for the Argentinean flora. The new species is only known from the type locality, Chos Malal (Neuquén Province). Up to date Trichopetalum was considered monotypic and endemic to Chile. A key to recognize both species is provided. The priority of Trichopetalum over Bottionea is analyzed. Some comments about Thysanotus, a genus mostly from Australia, are added. Both genera share the character of the inner tepals with profusely fimbriate borders
